The Trust works with over 260 talented and dedicated governors. Their experience and expertise plays a pivatol role in shaping the performance of each individual academy, and the Trust as a whole.
As an existing Multi-Academy Trust, the David Ross Education Trust has a robust governance structure in place which is reflected in the Master Funding Agreement (MFA) and Articles of Association as approved by the Department for Education.
The Trust has a dedicated Governor Services team whose role is to ensure that governance is strong within the Trust, all of its member academies and their local governing bodies (LGBs).
The Trust is committed to ensuring a high standard of governance across all Academies. To do this, the Trust provides:
- Governor training – regional and academy based
- DBS checks
- Governor recruitment
- Development of committee structures
- Advice and guidance on governance including legal issues and national and Trust-wide initiatives.
We are committed to ensuring each governor has the support and information required to play an effective role.
All Chairs of Governors are invited to termly regional meetings to provide feedback from the ‘front line’ and to share best practice with their cluster. Governors are also invited to an annual governor conference to celebrate success and feedback to the Trust on the year.
It is right, however, that the Trust ensures that each governor is equipped to translate their skills to the academy settings in which they volunteer their valuable time.
Our governor training programme has been enhanced, and now includes:
- Preparing for Ofsted
- RAISE online (Data and Standards)
- Governors’ Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Managing Allegations
- Handling Pupil Exclusions
- Safer Recruitment
- Introduction to Governance in a DRET Academy
- Introduction to Finance
- Special Educational Needs

- Governor Monitoring
- Chair Briefing Meetings and Training
